Lies alone on sheets of blue,
writhes beneath them as nightmares do.
Awakes and goes about the day,
takes time occasionally to pray.
Sleeps uneasy, mistrusts the night,
wakes occasionally, looks around in fright.
Can't stand the night, doesn't see the stars.
Overly familiar with the sounds of cars.
Never awake, always half asleep.
Always a breath away from the need to weep.
Shortened temper, heightened sighs
Never let them see you cry.
Twinge of contentment, twang of happiness
Eclipsed immediately by the sadness.
Constant longing, aching heart.
Comfort temporary, there's always more time apart.
