She stood in the park and looked around. She could see the
bridge. She could smell and feel the fog. She could hear the sounds of the
city. She could picture the people walking and the buildings that she was so
familiar with. She lived in paradise. She lived in the city of her dreams. But
she was lonely and she was unhappy. She took off her shoes and felt the grass
beneath her feet. She bent down and rolled up her pant legs. She closed her
eyes and breathed in deeply. She imagined that she could hear her favorite song
playing, and she began to dance.
When she was done, she put her shoes back on. Immediately,
she missed the feel of the grass. She began walking and she left the park. The
city kept moving around her. The people kept to their daily lives. She would still
be lonely that night, but she would have the city. San Francisco had saved her.
It saved her every day. Her heart beat for the city by the bay.
